Canada goes to the polls tomorrow to decide which political party will lead the country after May 2. Most bloggers will just encourage their readers to vote and not tell them who to vote for. However, I’m not most bloggers. I am not afraid to losing readers because I endorse a party that you may not agree with. If there’s anything I’ve learned in my five plus years of blogging is you never try to be all things to all people. A blogger who tries to please everyone ends up pleasing no one.
If there’s one good thing to come out of this election, it’s the self-destruction of the Liberal Party. Michael Ignatieff is about to do the unthinkable. He’s going to lead his party to a bigger defeat than even Stephen Dion. At the start of the election (when the Liberals were in a solid second place), I tweeted that Ignatieff will resign after this is over. I received a lot of flames over that tweet. Now, even the biggest Liberal supporter knows that Ignatieff has to go.
I endorse the Conservative Party of Canada and I invite all my Canadian readers to join me in helping them get their majority government tomorrow. The choice is simple; a stable Conservative government with low taxes or a flakey coalition government lead by the NDP (Non Democratic Party) that would raise taxes and kill jobs. The choice to me is clear. Vote Conservative!
After an extended away trip, I’m back in Vancouver for Dot Com Pho. I sent out an invite to meet at Happy Pho yesterday and Vancouver answered the call. We had a total of 17 people showed up to welcome me back. That’s pretty awesome! Anyone is welcome to attend Dot Com Pho. Follow me on Twitter to find the time and location of the next one.
For this very happy Dot Com Pho, we have Sally meeting Lexi for the first time, the deep fried banana, driving with one hand, a $3,000 gadget of the week and a whole lot more. This is also the first Vancouver Dot Com Pho to be filmed with the Panasonic GF2. Enjoy and we’ll see you next week!

Miku is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Vancouver. It’s the only North American restaurant of the Tora Corporation. Founded by Seigo Nakamura, Tora operates seven successful restaurants in Japan and has built an incredible reputation for fine Japanese food. Plans are in the works to open restaurants in New York and Los Angeles, but for now, the only way to experience Miku’s famous Aburi-style sushi in North America is to come to Vancouver. Mr. Nakamura spared no expense to create the Vancouver Miku. He even flew in his own chefs and head servers from Japan.
In true Japanese fashion, Miku greets all their diners with a loud chant. It can be quite shocking for first timers because it seems like all the chefs are yelling at you. They do the same when you leave. Sally really enjoyed it because she can speak Japanese and was able to respond to their greetings.
During lunch time, Miku is very loud. Because of the busy lunch time crowd going in and out, the chanting never lets up. It gives the restaurant a great energy but can bothersome if you’re trying to conduct a business meeting. Luckily, we were there to take it all in and dine on their delicious Aburi sushi.
When most people think of sushi, they think of raw fish on rice. Aburi-style sushi, however, is lightly seared with a touch to give it a nice smoke taste. Then the sushi is topped with some other ingredients and paired with a French sauce. This really adds a new dimension to just plain sushi.
Located inside the Guinness Tower at 1055 West Hastings Street, Miku is at the heart of the downtown financial district and caters to a high-end clientele. Lunch for me, Sally and Sarah came to $85 with tax and tips. Dinner would cost more but it would also be a quieter dining experience since there won’t be as many hurried executives going in and out.

Many bloggers like to go down to the local WiFi equipped coffee shop when they want a change of scenery from blogging at home. While blogging from the Starbucks is nice, it comes with two very big drawbacks; you have to buy some damn expensive coffee and the WiFi speed isn’t very fast. In my quest to find a better alternative, I’ve came up with one of the best free places to blog outside the home.
The High-End Auto Dealership
Today, I was at the Mercedes-Benz dealership in Vancouver to check out the new SLS AMG and ended up blogging from their customer lounge. Not only does the Mercedes-Benz customer lounge have blazingly fast free WiFi, but they have free Café Moca (and every other coffee) and donuts as well. The setup would put any Starbucks to shame!
Now, I don’t recommend packing up your laptop and setting up camp at you local high-end car dealership. After all, their customer lounge is made for customers and not freeloaders. However, if you’re interested in checking out their cars, I don’t see anything wrong with using their lounge afterwards.
The is the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. It cost over $200,000 with options. Think I should buy it?
Internet browsers have evolved greatly since the early 1990’s; we’re no longer limited to merely Netscape Navigator. These days internet users have plenty of browser options. You might like Chrome for its speed, Safari for its ease of use and Firefox for its customization options. But have you ever thought which one is the best for advertising? Don’t worry, we have.
In its effort to supply the online world with valuable information, Infolinks conducted a study of click trends based on browser behavior. During July 2010, Infolinks monitored advertising Click Through Rate (CTR) and Cost Per Thousand (CPM) from a sample of 40M impressions from 30K publishers in their network to determine which browsers out clicked the others and Opera clearly came out ahead.
The CTR of Opera is approximately 50% higher than Chrome and Safari, 40% higher than FireFox, and it’s 35% higher than Explorer.
The Opera eCPM is 35% higher than Firefox and Chrome, and it’s around 10% higher than Safari and Explorer.
So it’s a fact, user behavior varies greatly depending on browser. Although you might like one browser over another for its surfing capabilities, when it comes to advertising, Opera is the big winner. Make sure to target its users in your next campaign.
